ANOMALITH Weapon Upgrades: The Retrieval Loop
How ANOMALITH weapon upgrades work: bring Anomalous Objects back from Anomaly Zones, then develop stronger guns and gear at base.

Table of Contents
Weapon upgrades in ANOMALITH are built out of the things you carry out of an Anomaly Zone. The official Steam store page describes the system in one line: use Anomalous Objects retrieved from Anomaly Zones to develop and upgrade weapons and gears. There is no separate currency or shop described in the material — the materials you haul back from a Dive are the input, and the Countermeasures Office is where they turn into better guns.
That also means the practical question isn't "where is the upgrade menu" so much as "how do I get enough Anomalous Objects home." The material covers that loop well; it does not cover upgrade tiers, costs, material names or on-screen labels, so this page stays at the level of the loop itself.
The loop, as described
- Dive into an Anomaly Zone. Zones are twisted versions of ordinary Japanese places — a mall, an apartment building, a hospital — and they are where the upgrade material comes from.
- Pick up anomalous objects and materials while you explore. The developer frames this as a survival decision: manage ammunition, and choose carefully what to retrieve on the way to extraction.
- Send material back through a portal. In the Noisy Pixel review of the PS5 version, gathering is described as filling storage, taking it to a portal, and shipping it back, with quick actions for adding materials to the outgoing pile.
- Return to base and develop. The developer's system description puts development and upgrading of weapons and gear under the Office's research effort, and the review identifies Imari Fushimi, the chief research head, as the character handling weapons development. VGChartz's announcement write-up likewise describes the home base as where you meet the cast between missions and unlock upgrades.
- Spend the materials on a weapon you actually use. The review's experience is that once a gun is upgraded far enough, it does most of the work.

What an upgraded weapon actually changes
The most concrete player account comes from the Noisy Pixel review. It describes shooting as enjoyable and a little mindless, and says the rhythm clicks once a weapon is upgraded enough to make quick work of most encounters. Some Anomalies have weak points and armor, mechanics that should push you to vary your approach — but the reviewer found that a sufficiently strong gun makes those considerations matter less, and that they kept falling back on the same approach.
The same review lists "powerful weapon upgrades" among the things that undermine the challenge, alongside forgiving checkpoints and bosses that go down easily. Treat that as one player's read on balance rather than a rule: the reviewer was playing the PS5 version around its 2026 release window, and the demo had already been rebalanced more than once.
Getting materials without much friction
According to the review, you can re-enter old areas for more materials and effectively stock up on upgrades, which is the main way to prepare for a difficulty spike. The storage system is also described as generous — by the time storage fills, you are usually near another portal — so the intended "what do I leave behind" tension rarely bites. If you are short on material, revisiting a cleared Zone is the supported answer; the material does not describe a dedicated farming mode or vendor.
One caveat worth knowing before you plan a build: the review notes that the Retry option never sets you back far, so a failed attempt costs time rather than progress. That makes experimentation with an upgraded weapon fairly cheap.

Related systems that are not weapon upgrades
These are often lumped in with "upgrades" but the material treats them separately:
- Attachments and artifacts. VGChartz's write-up of the announcement describes a large variety of weapons, attachments, outfit items and artifacts, with artifacts infusing weapons with additional abilities. The exact artifact effects are not itemised anywhere in the material.
- Anomalization Skills and the Demi-Humanization System. The same write-up says Reona acquires and upgrades unique active and passive abilities from anomalies; the review describes these as MP-based melee strikes, combos and defensive actions, with MP refilled by shooting. This is a character-ability track, not a gun track.
- Outfits and gear appearance. The Steam page states that appearance can be changed without affecting stats. VGChartz puts the wardrobe at more than 300 items across nine parts of Reona's figure. Fashion is cosmetic; do not expect it to change weapon performance.
- Demo outfit development. A 2026-10-07 demo update notes that clearing the demo unlocks development of one of three "Armed Schoolgirl" outfit sets from the Digital Deluxe bonus. That is gear development, not a weapon upgrade, and it is demo-specific.
What the material does not pin down
The Steam page and the announcement coverage describe inputs and outcomes, not a ladder: there is no supported list of upgrade tiers, per-level costs, maximum levels, material rarities or the menu path you click to upgrade. The 2026-09-29 demo update mentions adjusting various numerical values and fixing issues affecting certain weapons, so numbers seen in the demo may not match the launch build. If a specific recipe or tier matters to you, check the in-game development screen rather than a third-party list.

FAQ
How do ANOMALITH weapon upgrades work?
You collect Anomalous Objects inside Anomaly Zones, get them back to base — the review describes sending material through a portal — and use them to develop and upgrade weapons and gear, per the official Steam page's system description.
Do weapon upgrades make the game easier?
The Noisy Pixel review says yes, noticeably: an upgraded gun clears most encounters quickly and can make weak-point and armor mechanics matter less. It lists powerful upgrades among the reasons the challenge feels undercut.
Can I farm materials for upgrades?
The review says you can re-enter earlier areas to gather more materials and build up upgrades before a tough section. The material does not describe any other farming method.
Does Reona's outfit affect weapon stats?
No — the Steam page states that outward appearance can be changed without affecting stats. Outfits are cosmetic; the upgrade track runs through Anomalous Objects and weapons.
